When you’re looking for a replacement handle, hinge, or door gasket for a cold room door, you may come across the term “offset.” Here’s what it means:

1. Door Offset

The door offset is the overall thickness of the door, including the gasket or seal.
For example:

  • A 100 mm thick door with a 20 mm gasket will have a total offset of 120 mm.

To measure the offset, close the door and measure from the front face of the frame to the outer surface of the door (see ‘D’ in the illustration below).

2. Gasket Offset

The gasket offset is the distance between the inner face of the door and the door frame.
It’s best to measure this along the hinged side, as gaskets compress over time, and this method gives a more accurate reading.

3. Hinge Offset

The hinge offset is taken from the point where the hinge is fixed on the panel or frame to the centreline of the hinge pin on the door.
This detail is important for choosing the right replacement hinge or compatible parts.
