MTH Cold Room Doors: The Benefits of Plastic Doors Frames

When investing in cold storage, it’s extremely important not to overlook a cold room door. A good quality, well-insulated cold room door can make the difference between an efficient, cost-effective cold room and an expensive problem.

This is why MTCSS are proud to be the UK agent for expert Italian refrigerated door manufacturers, MTH!

Who are MTH?

MTH are global leaders in the production of insulated doors, used in the commercial and industrial industry – producing hinged, sliding, guillotine and atmospheric doors that can be catered to ambient, chiller and freezer applications.

Why are plastic frames used for MTH cold room doors?

One of the most prevalent sectors that use plastic, is the construction industry. Plastics within the construction sector are extremely useful and play a large role in the majority of products. The reason plastics are so commonly used are because of the different properties that they hold.

Aside from its versatility, plastic holds a variety of benefits, which explains why it is largely used in the construction industry.

Plastic door frames are criticised by many for being unsustainable, however the benefits from using plastic as a material for a cold room door frame may surprise you!

What are the benefits of plastic frames on MTH cold room doors?

Traditionally, plastic door frames were a standardised fit on MTH cold room doors, but many people viewed their usage of plastic as ‘cheap’. Here are the benefits of using plastic door frames, compared to other materials;

  • Resistance
Plastics have a high-resistance to corrosion, making them ideal for usage on any type of cold room door frame; whether that be hinged or sliding, due to the constant flow of personnel traffic and products. They are also highly-resistant to the corrosion of chemicals – this means that your cold room door frame won’t rust, scuff or wear away as quickly; saving you and your business a lot of money in the long run trying to maintain it!
  • Environment
Due to their high-resistance, no rust will form along the door frame, meaning no rust can or will seep into the ground or water supply. Additionally, the process of manufacturing and using plastics uses a lot less energy than it would with metals, as a direct result of the plastics being lighter. The overall level of pollution is lower for plastics, when you consider the process of mining and melting metals to provide metal door frames.
  • Cost
Plastic is significantly less expensive than most other materials to manufacture and can be produced in much larger quantities. Not only this, but MTH cold room doors are competitively priced – making this an ideal solution if you are trying to minimise your bespoke cold room project costs!
  • Versatility of Moulding
Small pieces are required often in a construction project. Plastics are an optimal material, as they are able to be melted down and moulded into various, specific shapes to fit your requirements. In this instance, the plastics could be melted down to suit a specific requirement you have for your cold room doors.
  • Insulation
Plastic door frames act as a very good insulator for your chiller cold room; they act as a barrier between the internal temperature of your cold room, and the atmosphere outside of your cold room, ensuring that your products remain at the specific, maintained temperature, as well as helping to reduce sweating issues between temperature variations.

What other alternatives are there?

The other alternative to plastic cold room door frames, is aluminium. Aluminium door frames are generally standard within the UK and are made from a white food safe metal-wrapped timber.

Despite aluminium frames being standard, we now know that aluminium isn’t always as good an option as plastic. It isn’t as destructive as it could be, so aluminium and plastic door frames as a whole are two of your best, environmentally friendly door frame options – this is why MTCSS are proud to supply MTH cold room doors and spares.

MTH manufacture aluminium cold room door frames, however they are only available to use on specific cold room door sizes. More information about the sizes of MTH cold room doors are available on our e-commerce site.
