The safety of staff is paramount to companies and this is no different when it comes to using cold rooms. Walk-in cold rooms operate at low temperatures, particularly freezer cold rooms, which can pose a serious hazard if an individual is accidentally locked in. So, how can we reduce the risk to your company and staff?
A cold room entrapment alarm is one of the measures to control the health and safety risk of an individual being trapped in a chiller or freezer cold room. When an entrapment alarm is installed, an alarm cable or push button is installed inside the cold room, there is then an alarm which sounds outside of the cold room to alert other team members.
The alarm can turned off and reset with the ‘reset’ button on the external box outside of the cold room.
If a member of your team is trapped in the cold room, once they have pulled the cord or pressed the button on the entrapment alarm, it not only alerts people outside of the cold room that someone is trapped; but it also has an internal flashing light to reassure the person trapped in the chiller or freezer that the alarm is working and alerting someone.
Once the external alarm is sounded, the appropriate action can be taken to free the individual from the cold room, ensuring they are released quickly and efficiently to protect them from the low temperatures inside the cold room. Once they are free, the whole alarm system can be reset.
Entrapment alarms installed in chiller and freezer cold rooms have various features including:
• Easy installation and wiring
• Operational in temperatures down to –40°C
• Permanent location light
• External red flashing alarm and siren
• Internal reassurance light when the alarm is activated
• Quick and easy to reset
Other optional features include remote repeaters for use within offices, and the option of battery back up in the case of a power failure.
